An internship with Chicago Angels offers students hands-on experience with a quickly-growing nonprofit that requires the commitment and investment of its participants. We provide the learning and experience it takes to thrive as a committed, competent, and effective leader within the nonprofit community. Chicago Angels interns will become value-centered, service-oriented, and ethical leaders. All internships are unpaid, but eligible for class credit.

POSITION TITLE- Nonprofit Leadership Intern SUPERVISOR- Executive Director DAYS/TIMES NEEDED- 20-35 hours (approximate; occasional evenings/weekends) SALARY- Unpaid/ course credit REQUIREMENTS- All majors eligible ABOUT CHICAGO ANGELS Chicago Angels is a local chapter of a national nonprofit called National Angels. Our mission is to walk alongside children, youth, and families experiencing foster care by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building and mentorship.
Through our two core programs, we match dedicated volunteers with families and youth in the local foster care community to offer consistent practical and emotional support.
Our Love Box program is an opportunity to team up with other dedicated volunteers and create a pathway of hope for children in the foster care system. Volunteers meet practical, everyday needs, as well as build intentional relationships with the family they walking alongside. Our Dare to Dream program is a one-on-one mentorship program for aged-out or at-risk to age-out foster youth (ages ranging from 11-22 years). Our mentors are advocates, role models, valued friends, available resources, cheerleaders, and career enthusiasts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your role as a intern: This internship offers real hands-on experience at a local non-profit and one-on-one personal coaching and mentoring, requiring the commitment and investment of its participants. This internship is committed to the Chicago Angels mission and to having a positive impact on the students’ life with purpose, service, and leadership. Chicago Angels expects students to become value-centered and ethical leaders who want to positively influence and impact their community. Interns are passionately committing to making a difference by investing and sharing the responsibility to care for our youth and children in the foster care system. Interns are advanced students seeking to apply real world experience to their degree. Interns work under the supervision of the Executive Director, Jessica Stockl. Students who successfully complete an internship will be able to:
Identify and develop their own leadership style
Engage and learn from other leaders/ leadership styles in assignedreadings, networking events, and interviews.
Demonstrate knowledge in theories of leadership and management
Apply innovative practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness innonprofits
Design, implement and evaluate policies and practice of leadership andtraining
Research and learn about effective leadership in the nonprofit sector
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Working one-on-one with the leadership team to helping on-board and train volunteers, and interns
Learning the fiscal responsibilities of the board and staff
Completing reading assignments and journal entries
Fundraising, Event Planning, and Donor Management
Attending networking events
Conducting leadership conversations
Assist with grant proposals
Facebook & Instagram Marketing
Attending/Observing Needs Assessments with foster parents and volunteers and initial meets up with mentors and mentees
Attending Love Box Presentations/networking events
Learning about volunteer development, training, and engagement
Helping plan and execute fundraising events
Tracking data/in-kind donations
Building partnerships with CPA (child placement agencies)
Building local partnerships with companies, other non-profits, and faith communities
Attending board meetings, fundraising events, and engaged culture days
Keeping internship journal/log
Attending 2 Professional Development workshops
Completing reading projects
Working approximately 20-25 hours/week during the summer with the possibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
